Whilst
PJ Bells aka Kaleida aka Republica (now Matt & Phreds) , kept the Oldham St. torch
burning during the 80’s and early 90’s, it was the Night & Day
Cafes development during the mid 90’s, that created the first sparks
of a cultural explosion in a depressing and semi-derelict part of the
city. Soon a massive menu of local and touring bands made it the place to play, challenging all nearby venues head on.
It's now maybe Manchester's coolest venue.
Today, N&D sits at the centre of a regenerating and new cultural focus of Manchester. Even better, is the fact that the young promoters who cut their teeth, grafting to make N&D work are still around and involved in other musical ventures within Manchester. A small, compact café bar N&D is hot in summer (although not quite as much due to some air-con) and loud all year round – A high stage gives everyone a good view – hosts lots of live stuff, as well as hosting club nights. Well worth your time and effort especially as its live events calendar is now probably the best in the City .
