Gabrielle’s Wish are definitely Manchester’s best talent unknown by the outside world for too long. At this gig they played a song that could change everything. But, for those who do not know Gab’s Wish, they are Rob Corless- Vocals, Paul Ryan- Lead Guitar, Darren Moran- Bass Guitar, Consi- Drums (yes ! that consi!) and Paps- Keyboard.
‘All Day Long’ is their opener, and a quality opener it is. The vocals are truly supreme and inspired, and take on a style of their own. This is backed by the fractured guitar playing that complements Rob’s vocals, without being too submissive and the drums bring everything together in a style that cannot be pinned down.
‘Dayless Wonder’ is next and the bass guitar stands out this time sounding very smooth and rhythmic. Again the vocals are belting and incomparable.
This is the song that you should be waiting for: ‘Blue Sky’. This truly is one of the best songs ever, and could not be played better by anyone. As before the lyrics and vocals are priceless and there is a hint of early 80s/90s guitar influences. It is a song that draws you in with some sort of hypnotic vibe and makes you unconsciously move towards the band, when I looked over to the band the floor in front of them was packed as in previous songs there were only a few people stood around.
‘Stay’ is a bit of come down track with ‘Lard’ style rockery and jokery, and the vocals were a bit like Frank Stapleton.
Lastly, ‘Midnight Itch’. The sound of everyone playing together is great: the guitars and bass are infallible and the vocals, like ‘Blue Sky’ have an hypnotic effect on the audience, and everyone is just staring at the band.
