THURSDAY 25th MARCH 2004

LISA BROWN, ORMONDROYD, MIA, WHEN ANIMALS ATTACK

Entry £4 (£3 Adv)

ManchesterMusic.Co.Uk’s next generation of events follows up CHAIRSMISSING with its next instalments of firebrand rock, visiting bands and deliberate genre bending.

The Electric Circus features a mish mash of art, electronica, different cities and headshrinking sounds, but all with one common theme – cutting edge excitement…featuring key up and coming out of towners (out of country) acts such as  Econoline (Seriously Groovy label / London) and Part Chimp ( Rock Action / London), Broadzilla (USA), Seed (Leeds), Tarzan Stripes ( Germany), Ormondroyd (Sheffield) – we’ve also begun to include the next batch of Mancunian frontline hopefuls.

Already garnering praise as a result of their gig at last month's In The City event in Manchester. For dolorous, don't think sad-eyed losers in shabby raincoats, think literate realists with hearts full of soul and their feet on the ground, until, that is, they start to sing. This is the point at which they unfurl their wings and soar to the heavens. Catch them while they're grounded, the chances are they'll soon be out of reach. LOGO MAGAZINE

Sheffields Peel favoured mini orchestra of assorted harmonies and subtle pop “…a synthesis of graceful elegies cocooned in naïve, childlike simplicity; of smoothed sophistication; of insecure, frayed edges. Cresting arches of awestricken strings and picture book harmonies. Peaceful in its remoteness, anxious in its loneliness….”

WHEN ANIMALS ATTACK

“…. one of the best (unsigned) CD’s to have turned up for years. With PR quotes from Clint Boon claiming that WAA sound 'like a band with a million pound record contract',  Mr Boon is a cloth eared idiot with too much time on his hands. He only had to go as far as "I Am" to work that one out - WAA are nicely ferocious .. and they beat the crap out of the early Radiohead stuff they sound nearest too. Strong material delivered with style n venom, sane a&r types are advised get on to this now…” UNPEELED

MIA

“…Mia sparkle easily in starry eyed wonder as they leave you in a wake of new folk masterpieces – it’s easy to conclude that they aspire to the epic and believe in pretty melodies…”
