SATURDAY 20th MARCH 2004 – THE CASTLE OLDHAM

THE SONAR YEN – NINE BLACK ALPS – VIVA STEREO – LOOSE CANON

FREE Before 10.30pm (£3 After) with free entry to late licenced Castle Rock Club

ManchesterMusic.Co.Uk’s next generation of events follows up CHAIRSMISSING with its next instalments of firebrand rock, visiting bands and deliberate genre bending.

The Electric Circus features a mish mash of art, electronica, different cities and headshrinking sounds, but all with one common theme – cutting edge excitement…featuring key up and coming out of towners (out of country) acts such as  Econoline (Seriously Groovy label / London) and Part Chimp ( Rock Action / London), Broadzilla (USA), Seed (Leeds), Tarzan Stripes ( Germany), Ormondroyd (Sheffield) – we’ve also begun to include the next batch of Mancunian frontline hopefuls.

This date is The Sonar Yens second regional appearance in support of their debut album : “SLOW PICTURE” released on the 29.03.04 (mcr – and independent shops  - 12.04.04 high street chains) on SOVIET UNION.

Samples and downloads will be available 2 weeks prior to release at : www.sovietunion.co.uk

BANDS

THE SONAR YEN

“Glammed up noise-core switchback…the kind of metalled, laid back menace you’d have got if Lou Reed had the technology back in Transformer days.  By the by, simple and simply fucking superb”

Unpeeled

NINE BLACK ALPS

“..The phrasing and melodies may have a Seattle influence, but to deliver it with rasping guitars that are only just introduced to a distortion pedal, gives it a compelling freshness and vibrancy. All of which sticks two fingers at over-production and celebrates the almighty power of garage bands, past, present - here and now..”

VIVA STEREO

Glasgow’s Viva Stereo have already been favourably compared with The Happy Mondays, and it’s not a position we’re going to argue with.. choppy, funked up wah-guitars and a vision broader than Quincy Jones’ … Yet ANOTHER magnificent unsigned band lurking in the margins, yet the labels continue to sign no-hopers. What the fuck is wrong with this picture? : LOGO MAGAZINE

LOOSE CANON

“… knock out loose tunes (including seminal signature  "This American Kid") act like they’ve been let off a lease with outstanding numbers like "Radiate" sounding like a lost classic from "Pet Sounds".
