POLITBURO : TARZAN STRIPES : FAST LADY

Doors: 8.30pm Price: FREE before 10.30pm)

ManchesterMusic.Co.Uk’s next generation of events follows up CHAIRSMISSING with its next instalments of firebrand rock, visiting bands and deliberate genre bending.

The Electric Circus features a mish mash of art, electronica, different cities and headshrinking sounds, but all with one common theme – cutting edge excitement…featuring key up and coming out of towners (out of country) acts such as  Econoline / Seriously Groovy label / London and Part Chimp / Rock Action / London, Broadzilla (USA), Seed (Leeds) – we’ve also begun to include the next batch of Mancunian frontline hopefuls.

After taking the show up to Leeds at the end of 2003, we begin the first of a series of  2004 gigs at Oldhams newly refurbished and refitted CASTLE.

POLITBURO

The Fly : “Politburo deliver 21st century glittered, gutter level punk with an IQ. Cut with consciously dark-tinged shades of midnight hour rock and roll, and explosive Detroit ‘75 spontaneity, Politburo offer up  a mass of thumping primal bass transmissions, the guitar delicately picking out distorted riffs in a kind of way that may well distil the ragged glory of Joy Division, with the anthemic lust of The Dead Kennedys …” now spliced with electro backing and pulsating anthems, Politburo are Manchester’s newest, bravest and possibly best prog-punk songwriters.

FAST LADY

A sexed up Soft Cell, all cabaret pastiche and antagonistic, angsty vox mangled into 70's cock rock and fuzzy guitar riffs -  "Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?" harked words transcribed by the late great Freddie Mercury. His emotion drenched in reverb and operatic in it's execution. How could he have known then that aside from the hedonistic pleasure trove that was the seventies that in the next century we would remiss those words and regret that we were not his friend or crusted bed toy. Fastr Lady release their debut album on V/VM Test Records.

Muzik Magazine (August 2003) :“Neo poodle perm rock from Fast Lady (who sound like they were cloned from the Def Leppard drummer’s missing arm!)

TARZAN STRIPES

Numan meets Beck on a dark night with Brian Ferry’s Roxy Music in tow. The amazing Tarzan Stripes from the North East happily slashes an electro one man performance with some catchy melodies and completely off the wall scratchy guitars.  Tarzan Stripes rattles and rasps along with simple chords but with a catchy ear for a skewered melody, chic tin bath guitar distortions and binatone organ sounds. A funnelled skinning of Ultravox provides dark soundtracks with dry, almost camp but abrasive vocals.
