Lodestone

http://www.lodestonemusic.com/

Celebrating grunge isn’t a bad thing – just ask Nine Black Alps et al. Lodestone however don’t have the advantage of international producers, but still manage to dish up dreamy, dirty rock i- often the faint vocals are hidden beyond the crunching chords, but the real swagger of 6 strings sits under inspiring harmonies. The end result is something like The Vines playing the Stone Roses. Their sonics celebrate the end of the 80’s with an energy that champions the best of Mancunian rock (I mean proper Mancunian rock, not the STUPID, brain dead, legacies from baggy..)

Julian Donkey Boy

http://www.donkey-boy.co.uk/

He’s of a paltry nineteen years and yet everything that counts on demo  ‘Charmed’ belies this. Similarly Julian Donkey-Boy’s (a.k.a. John Kirkpatrick) sound contradicts its geography, whatever Moston is supposed to sound like. Kirkpatrick carries on the line from a sumptuous indie tapestry including Deus, Pavement, Elliot Smith and Pedro The Lion’s latest work and then crosses it with the spunkiest bits of alt-country. Will Oldham and Wilco immediately spring to mind. This tapestry he makes very much his own with pangs of youthful neuroses that constitutes the enticing icing on a supremely charismatic and charming (no pun here, folks) tart
