FRIDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2004

DEAD FLY BUCHOWSKI, SAY JANSFIELD, THE PERMISSIVE SOCIETY, YENA VELDT

Entry £4 Doors 8.30pm

Here’s another chapter in The Electric Circus  - in the year gone by, we’ve showcased up and coming signed bands (YOUTH MOVIE SOUNDTRACK STRATEGIES, PART CHIMP, BROADZILLA, KUBICHEK) before they hit the playlists of venues. We tie up with our last Manchester event of 2004 with our very special guests from BEGGARS BANQUET – DEAD FLY BUCHOWSKI – Not heard of them ? – You soon will.  This event also sees the Manchester debut of Say Jansfield (a solo project based around the former frontman to Transelement, whose debut goes out on Creeping Bent this November ). The Permissive Society continue to get our unconditional support as the city’s most abrasive, angular post punk stars – and there’s a brand new band for you too…YENA VELDT…all will be revealed on the night.

Dead Fly Buchowski are Beggars Banquet’s very latest signing and they kick off their UK tour at The Electric Circus, Manchester, having just completed some dates on the MTV2 Gonzo Tour  VERY SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION  7” single version of our Debut Release “BLACKOUT c/w HOPE IS TREASURE” will be available during the tour from gigs only.

“..Searing live powerhouse vocals, stripped down telecaster clang, cathartic guttural soul, wrenched from the bottom of the gullet. Very loud indeed…”

SAY JANSFIELD

Webpage: http://www.sayjansfield.co.uk

“Cut out beats and fractured guitars  set underneath almost operatic multiple harmonies – a  joyous slice of skittered melodies, eloquent songwriting and instantly likeable, but far from simple pop music. Summoning up the quirky seriousness of Yes and the digital cybernetics of John Foxx into a brilliant soup of sprightly verses and an epic chorus, there’s almost as much charm present, as that of an form Abba, as there is rock sensibility. The wonderful and frequently beautiful Wilson-esque harmonies of “A Sad Past” are set to shining Acoustic Guitars and a string fuelled climax. “Juniper” exploits computer sequencing and plenty of odd Sci-Fi sounds – sort of like a bontempi organ on crack…”

YENA VELDT

What if we said Manchester 2004 - post rock, low slung, retro grinding angular noises. Bashed out of an Ancoats rehearsal room for 8 months before being unleashed on an unsuspecting public….there may even be a beard in there, but they love peace and seek intelligent conversation between searing feedback and snappy distortions.  Not even we know what might be unleashed. It’s a lottery but worth your ticket.

THE PERMISSIVE SOCIETY

Webpage: www.thepermissivesociety.co.uk

“perfect rattle-along, stop-start alt. indie, with angular bass lines and rasping guitars. The vocals on ‘amsterdammed’ could take someone's head off, if not the singer's first. The cut-throat shouting, which owes as much to death metal as it does to a birthday party era nick cave, amplifies an already winning formula. dangerously different and impossible to miss"
